What a dominant New York Rangers win from start to finish. Artemi Panarin remained red hot, scoring a hat trick and grabbing an assist on a Vincent Trocheck power play goal. Jonathan Quick continued to defy Father Time, stopping 29 of 31 in his first start of the season. The aforementioned Trocheck also put up a 4 point performance with a goal and 3 assists. Victor Mancini at long last gets justice and finally scores his first NHL goal in his home state.

The Rangers are clearly driven by the Panarin, Trocheck, and Alexis Lafrenière trio. From the drop of the puck, they were the best line in the game for the Rangers, and have been through the first week and a half of the season. Even with the game out of reach, they didn’t take their foot off the gas.

Panarin feasted on the power play, as he should. I am not going to razz the Rangers on being power play merchants in this game, because the Red Wings just kept taking penalties throughout the game. The Rangers best players should be producing on the power play. It’s one of their best weapons, and they become even more dangerous as they continue to look good at 5v5 as well.

How about that Victor Mancini though? With time running out on his stay with the Rangers, at least for now, there were thoughts he may not get another quality scoring chance after his goal was incorrectly waved off against Utah. Those worries are gone though, with a rifling shot from the blue line, Mancini got his moment with his family in attendance.

Judging by how Mancini has looked, this will not be the last NHL goal he scores. Even when he’s returned to Hartford, he will be back. There are still things for him to work on defensively, things that he won’t be able to improve upon without big minutes in all situations. Hartford can give him that, the Rangers can’t. Yet. They will though, either by trading Lindgren this season or by letting him walk–and trading Jacob Trouba–this coming offseason.

Ending with Quick, what a story he’s been. He has revived the twilight of his career with the team he grew up cheering for. Igor Shesterkin cannot play all 82 games, and Quick’s resurgence has given them peace of mind to be a little more liberal with Shesterkin’s rest days. Good to see that the Benoit Allaire taking a step back in the organization hasn’t changed anything.

All in all, a solid win over an incredibly directionless team in the Detroit Red Wings.
