Per Vince Mercogliano, Rangers forward Jimmy Vesey will be out week-to-week with a lower body injury. Vesey actually suffered the injury at a practice, not during a preseason game, which is a bit rare for preseason skates and practices. But such is life sometimes, and now the Rangers are without their second projected roster player to start the season.
Vesey was penciled in as one of the Rangers’ 4th line wingers, with a rotating cavalry of players vying for the other two spots on the fourth line, plus a 13th forward. Now with Vesey and Ryan Lindgren out, the Rangers are likely going to have to go with 12 forwards to start the season due to cap constraints.
On the bright side, this likely means Adam Edstrom and Matt Rempe both break camp with the Rangers, plus one of Jonny Brodzinski or Sam Carrick, depending how the rest of camp goes.
