As expected, the Rangers have re-signed defenseman Braden Schneider to a 2 year bridge deal. The bridge deal has been an expected outcome given the Rangers cap situation, and it comes in under the original projection of $2.2 million.
The $2.2 million contract leaves the Rangers with a shade under $5 million in cap space with Ryan Lindgren remaining to sign. But that does include 15 forwards, including Bo Groulx, so let’s call it closer to $5.5 million remaining to be conservative.
Schneider re-signing was always a no-brainer, and he does have the potential to be a solid bargain at $2.2 million if he moves up in the lineup. The Rangers need bargains right now, and with Schneider and Ruhwedel taking up less than $3 million in cap space, hopefully they find that value.
