Original Post: Per Josh Yohe, the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins, not always known for liking each other, are talking a potential Reilly Smith trade. Both teams have been rather quiet as free agent frenzy has seen another three-quarters of a billion dollars dished out, and this trade would be the first major move for either team.

Smith is a good RW that the Rangers desperately need with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, and has just one year and $5 million left on his deal, a short term fit the Rangers are looking for.

Update: The Reilly Smith trade has been confirmed. The Rangers send 2027 2nd and 2025 5th rounders to Pittsburgh. The Penguins have retained 25% ($1.25 million) of Smith’s $5 million salary.
