With the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the NY Rangers selected defenseman EJ Emery. Emery was profiled by Will in his defense preview, and he’s a guy the Rangers are very familiar with. Will compared his play style to that of K’Andre Miller: Very athletic, great positioning, solid skater, and very strong defensively.
Emery doesn’t bring much offense to the table, but he still moves the puck well and skates very well for his size (6’3, 185 lbs). Emery is a very solid kid who should transition nicely to the NHL. He’s a minutes eater who may not wow you, but he just gets the job done.
Emery is committed to the University of North Dakota next season and is likely 2-3 seasons away from making an NHL impact. Just in time for that second window for the Rangers in 2026.
