Another interesting development came from Rangers practice yesterday, as Blake Wheeler returned to practice in a non-contact jersey. Wheeler has been out since February 17 after suffering a gruesome leg injury. Wheeler wasn’t necessarily the top line winger that he was forced to play this season, but he was still a solid depth option that created the need for Jack Roslovic.
It’s unlikely Wheeler returns to the lineup unless there’s an injury, and even this is putting the cart before the horse. He first needs to skate in full and get a few practices in.
If anything, Wheeler’s presence at practice is about morale boost. It was clear Wheeler’s injury shook the team, so getting him back on the ice is a jolt to the team to keep them humming along.
