We are in the home stretch of the regular season, and the Rangers are again in a situation to virtually clinch a number of firsts. While they can’t mathematically clinch, a win tonight knocks their magic number for both the Metro Division crown and top spot in the East to 1, assuming tiebreakers with Carolina hold.

If the Rangers win and the Dallas Stars lose in regulation, their magic number for the President’s Trophy also drops to 1.

There isn’t much else to this game, aside from Peter Laviolette not resting some of his players, which is a bit odd. Maybe he just wants to get everything clinched before he rests some guys.
