Jaroslav Chmelar was one of the NY Rangers prospects impressing at the 2023 World Juniors.

The Rangers have added another skilled forward to their depth chart, inking 2021 5th rounder Jaroslav Chmelar to an entry level contract. Chmelar was drafted out of the Finnish Juniors playing with Jokerit, where he put up a line of 9-9-18 in his 2021-2022 season in 39 games.

Chmelar transferred to Providence College last season, playing a year with Brett Berard before Berard turned pro. Chmelar put up a respectable 7-6-13 in 33 games as a freshman.

His sophomore season was cut short due to a freak skate blade injury after just 26 games. Chmelar’s points-per-game rate increased despite the injury, putting up 5 goals and 15 points in that span before the injury.

Chmelar ranked #14 in this year’s Rangers Top 25 Under 25, a ranking based on his high ceiling and improved production since jumping to the NCAAs. Naturally, we expect to see him make the next jump at the AHL level.
