McDonagh OT winner

Per Vince Mercogliano, the Rangers lines tonight will feature their two big trade deadline acquisitions in Alex Wennberg and Jack Roslovic. It’s expected that Roslovic will join Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider on the top line, while Alex Wennberg will be the pivot for Will Cuylle and Kaapo Kakko. This makes sense, as Roslovic is the only option that hasn’t been tried at 1RW yet.

It is a tad surprising that Jonny Brodzinski will be a healthy scratch, as he’s been a bit more steady and reliable than Matt Rempe. That said, Rempe appears to give the Rangers a nice boost of youthful energy and is a relative rare type of player, so there’s no harm in letting this play out.

This is the time to tinker with the lineup, especially with Jacob Trouba out. It’s no surprise that Chad Ruhwedel will sit for now, as Zac Jones has far more familiarity with the system than Ruhwedel. Again, no harm in seeing what Jones has to offer. Since Ruhwedel is a known entity, it’s important that Peter Laviolette really figures out what Jones has to offer come playoff time.

Expect these to change somewhat regularly until a final lineup is set.
