The Rangers have bolstered their blue line depth, adding defenseman Chad Ruhwedel from Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2027 4th round pick. Ruhwedel will be insurance on Zac Jones, whom the Rangers likely don’t view as a viable depth option in the playoffs.
Ruhwedel is a solid defenseman, focusing primarily on defense and penalty killing. He’s on an expiring contract at $800,000, so there’s no real impact to the salary cap.
Another defenseman was always on Chris Drury’s radar. Now they just need another forward.
