Alex Wennberg scratched; Hartford calls up a defenseman; Trade incoming?

The Seattle Kraken announced that Alex Wennberg is scratched for trade related reasons, which has officially kicked off trade season for the Rangers. Making things more interesting is the Hartford Wolf Pack recalled a defenseman from the ECHL last night.

We’ve been theorizing that the Rangers will deal from aging out prospects. Matthew Robertson is the first player that comes to mind, as it’s clear there will not be a roster spot for him any time soon.

With Alex Wennberg scratched and the Pack calling up a defenseman, it does seem like the Rangers are ready to part ways with someone on the AHL roster to make a move. Wennberg is the only name being held out right now, so the rumors are flying.

This is a decent match for both teams too, but the Rangers might need to find a money laundering team to take half his cap hit ($4.5 million).
