Jonny Brodzinski extension

Per Peter Baugh, the Rangers have rewarded center Jonny Brodzinski with a 2 year contract extension in the $787,500 range. The Brodzinski extension is a culmination of everything he’s done this year, and the Rangers are rewarding him for it, similar to how they rewarded Jimmy Vesey last year.

Brodzinski has earned himself a spot in the Rangers lineup as a regular. His chemistry with Kaapo Kakko and Will Cuylle has been a bit of a revelation. Brodzinski was never part of the plan, even as recently as December, and was always viewed as a plug.

Now? Brodzinski appears to be the 4C of the future. Even if he falters or this is just a blip of stellar play, he’s cheap enough that he doesn’t impact the cap and can be sent to Hartford at any point. This is what you want from a GM when building the bottom half of the roster. Interchangeable parts that are cheap and effective. Brodzinski fits that mold, as does Vesey.

Now the fun question: Does his emergence –along with Adan Edstrom and Matt Rempe looking good– make Barclay Goodrow expendable at the draft? At the trade deadline?
