In a bit of a shocking move, but one that absolutely needed to be made, the Rangers will place Nick Bonino on waivers today. The move has been necessary for a while, as discussed in yesterday’s Patreon post, since Bonino has become a significant net-negative on the ice. He just got old. It happens to everyone. Father Time always wins.
Bonino still has a good hockey mind, but his body just couldn’t keep up anymore. At 35 years old, he was always viewed as a low risk insurance signing for the fourth line. Sometimes things just don’t work out.
Assuming he clears, it’s safe to assume he will be back up for the playoffs in a Black Ace type role.
