Filip Chytil OT winner against the Devils

In the dynamic realm of hockey, the sport offers a plethora of highlights that linger in our memories. The New York Rangers, a team with a rich history, have contributed numerous moments that resonate with many fans. In this feature titled “Remember When,” we delve into some of these moments—some noteworthy, others less so.

In this particular installment of “Remember When,” we revisit the night of December 12th, 2022, when Filip Chytil scored an OT winner that ended an eventful night against the rival New Jersey Devils.

At this point of the season, the Rangers were coming back from their long funk that almost ended their season. After a slow start, the team began to crawl their way back into the hunt. After going down 3-1, Igor Shesterkin stopped a crucial penalty shot against Jack Hughes to keep it a 2-goal game. Then, after a Jonas Siegnthaler penalty, the Rangers would score on that power play from a deflection in front to make it 3-2.

Seven seconds later, Kaapo Kakko would bank home a nifty feed from K’Andre Miller to tie the game at three. The game would go to overtime and Filip Chytil, from a nifty pass from Artemi Panarin, would ring one off the bar and in to win it for the Rangers, propelling them to a much-needed win and two points in the standings.
