rangers recall matthew robertson

The Rangers have recalled defenseman Matthew Robertson, a move that likely means Jacob Trouba will not be in the lineup tonight in St. Louis and likely through the weekend home-and-home against the Washington Capitals. Trouba’s wife is about to give birth so he’s staying behind, as expected.

Robertson’s recall is likely because the Rangers are away the next two games and want to have a spare body with them. There’s also some kind of LTIR usage shenanigans at play, but to be fair, I have no idea how LTIR usage works. Someone who is better with cap management will need to fill us in.

Trouba’s absence likely means Zac Jones will draw into the lineup over the next three games. Jones hasn’t played since Adam Fox returned from injury. He’s been hit or miss lately, but he does get better with more consistent ice time. It would be great to see him get more ice time, but it’s understandable that Peter Laviolette is aiming to win.
