2024 World Juniors Recap: Team USA Gold

Team USA did what was expected at the 2024 World Juniors, dispatching of Sweden in the Final to take home gold. The game was a lot closer than the 6-2 score, with USA scoring three times in the third to secure gold. Gabe Perreault had the first goal of the game, and then assisted on USA’s first two goals of the third period, extending a 3-2 lead to a 5-2 lead. Perreault finished with the three points in 13:27 TOI.

Drew Fortescue had an assist in 14:41 TOI.

Team USA was the favorite coming into the tournament, but it wasn’t smooth sailing. They needed a shootout to defeat Czechia in the round robin portion of the schedule. They also squeaked by Finland, scoring three in a row after getting down 2-0.

Perreault finished the tournament with 3 goals and 7 assists over the 7 games. Fortescue finished with a goal and three assists.

Basing a prospect’s entire worth on the 2024 World Juniors, or any World Juniors, isn’t the right approach. There’s more to a prospect’s development than a 7 game tournament. Perreault and Fortescue, if anything, added to strong resumes, especially Perreault. Perreault is looking like a homerun pick by the Rangers. Fortescue is looking like a low key solid pick as well.
