In the dynamic realm of hockey, the sport offers a plethora of highlights that linger in our memories. The New York Rangers, a team with a rich history, have contributed numerous moments that resonate with many fans. In this feature titled “Remember When,” we delve into some of these moments—some noteworthy, others less so.

In this particular installment of “Remember When,” we look back at the Ryan Lindgren game winner in the third period versus the Buffalo Sabres on November 21st, 2021.

Lindgren surprised Sabres goaltender Aaron Dell when he received a pass from Mika Zibanejad and swiftly shot the puck into the net, securing his second goal of the season at the 19:59 mark. The puck had made its way to Zibanejad through a scramble in the corner, with Adam Fox providing the crucial pass. This decisive play by Lindgren followed a chaotic second period in which both teams scored three goals, with four of them coming in a rapid 82-second sequence.

Lindgren’s goal, the fourth of his career at the time, ignited the Madison Square Garden crowd when it almost seemed like the game was headed to overtime. I had the chance to be at the arena that night and I got dizzy celebrating so hard. The pure elation of that goal and seeing the Rangers get the win in that fashion reinforced my love for hockey. On a personal note for myself, it was a bittersweet night as I had lost a family member the same day, so the Rangers winning certainly put a nice end to what was a very tough weekend for me.

Relive the goal as heard by Sam Rosen and Joe Micheletti on MSG and on the away MSG Western New York feed, led by Dan Dunleavy and Rob Ray.
