The Rangers are in a bit of a rut, and injuries are certainly playing a role in their subpar play of late. Even though it’s only two losses in a row, the two previous wins over Nashville and San Jose were sloppy at best. It’s tough to look good when the forecheck and neutral zone coverages are poor, and that has a lot to do with missing Filip Chytil and Kaapo Kakko. But for now, they must make do.

The Kings are a good team this year, deep down the middle, and strong in net. They don’t have that elite finishing talent like the Rangers, but they play a good process game and take advantage of other team’s mistakes. Since the Rangers have been making a bunch of them lately, this could be another ugly one.

Or perhaps, since Peter Laviolette viewed last night’s debacle as a one-off, the Rangers rebound in a big way and humiliate the Kings. But let’s be real, we just want the two points.
