In the dynamic realm of hockey, the sport offers a plethora of highlights that linger in our memories. The New York Rangers, a team with a rich history, have contributed numerous moments that resonate with many fans. In this feature titled “Remember When,” we delve into some of these moments—some noteworthy, others less so.

In this edition of “Remember When,” we look back at one of the more dramatic comeback wins in recent Rangers history, with New York storming back to win it in OT against the Stars, after tying it with just under a couple of seconds on the clock.

For 59 minutes and 59 seconds, Madison Square Garden seemed to echo with a sense of emptiness. The Rangers found themselves trailing 1-0 against Dallas in a game dominated by the Stars’ stringent defensive style. However, in the dying moments, the Rangers orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, etching a dramatic victory—a victory that resonates as one of the most exciting.

Throughout the entire game, the Rangers struggled to breach the defensive stronghold of Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger. Then, in a thrilling climax, K’Andre Miller unleashed a powerful shot from 40 feet with a fraction of a second left on the clock (official time undisclosed).

This decisive moment occurred during a chaotic six-on-five situation, where the Blueshirts, amidst a maze of blocked shots and deflections, managed to keep the puck in the zone. The eruption of Madison Square Garden at this buzzer-beating goal mirrored the fervor usually reserved for playoff games.

Overtime ensued, and the Rangers wasted no time getting down to business. Mika Zibanejad seized an opportunity, dispossessing Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen. Artemi Panarin then injected chaos by receiving a pass from Zibanejad, driving the net, and leaving the puck for Adam Fox. With poise, Fox took his time before delivering a top-shelf finish. At 1:16 of overtime, the Rangers clinched a 2-1 victory, sealing one of the season’s standout triumphs.

This victory, nestled among the best of the season, played a crucial role in steering the team back on course during a challenging period from December to the season’s conclusion. Having been fortunate enough to witness this electrifying game in person, MSG pulsated with an energy that made it one of my all-time favorite live experiences.
