NY Rangers Carolina Hurricanes Mika Zibanejad

The Rangers have their first true test of the season tonight as the Carolina Hurricanes come to town. The Canes may have a 6-4 record, but they did that without two of their best skaters for half their games. Now fully healthy, the Canes are very dangerous and play a fast paced, tons of shots type of game. The Rangers nowadays like to slow things down a bit.

Where Carolina falters is in net, as their goaltending has been atrocious to start the season. Frederik Andersen, their starter, has a sub-.890 SV%, which is just bad no matter which way you slice it. The Rangers strength is defense and limiting high danger chances. The Canes run their offense through their point men. Seems like it’s a bad matchup for Carolina, but it all depends on execution. If the Rangers protect home plate, then Carolina may struggle to generate offense.

This is the first true test of the season for the Rangers. Let’s see how they do.
