DFS Hockey 10/19 slate has Colorado and the Rangers in prime spots

Your DFS Hockey 10/19 slate has a lot of good games to choose from. The Rangers, Leafs, and Avs will all be the chalk plays, and you may need to look elsewhere in large field tournaments to get off the chalk and hope for the best. These large slates is where the game theory kicks into overdrive. Sometimes it’s about more than just picking the best guys, especially if you’re like me looking to finish top 1% in the large fields.

As a reminder, be sure to check out my primer on how to win big at DFS hockey. And as always, please bet and play responsibly. I won’t be putting that many words in each of these going forward, just the guys that caught my eye and why. Remember though, just because it’s called out here doesn’t mean there aren’t other options. Play who you like! This is just what I like.

Reviewing yesterday’s picks

I was in the top-10 in two large field tournaments with a legitimate shot at $25,000 with 5 minutes left in the Detroit game. Then those last 5 minutes happened and I finished top 1%, but out of the big money. Left with $80 on a $27 investment, a nice little 3x on my money. Before the Andrew Copp empty netter I was looking at $500, and that was also before Ben Chiarot hit the 3+ BS bonus.

Goalies:

    • Anton Forsberg ($8k): Chalk goalie paid off
    • GPP Pick: Ville Husso ($7.5k) – 3rd most owned goalie was the optimal for tournaments.

Team Picks:

    • Target Ottawa: Paid off, but not if you went for Brady Tkachuk like me. I missed on the game theory in my own lineup.
    • Avoid Washington: Do not touch Willie. Good advice.

Today’s Goalies

  • Igor Shesterkin ($8.2k): Pay up to be contrarian in GPPs. Likely won’t see big volume but is a prime shutout contender.
  • Marc-Andre Fleury ($7.6k): For some reason, people don’t like MAF. Another prime matchup with LA struggling.

Teams to Target/Avoid

Instead of picking stacks and defensemen, going with teams to target. You aren’t going to be playing fourth lines and bottom pairs. Instead we pick teams/games to target that should be boat races, and avoid teams/games that should be a slog. This will get more fine tuned as we get more data on each team’s tendencies.

  • Target Rangers: Prime spot against a bad Nashville team. L2 is still too cheap.
  • Target Colorado: L1 is expensive, but if you think L2 will give you the nuts, it’s cheap.
  • Target Toronto: Another soft matchup, and lots of good (but expensive) guys to pick from.
  • Avoid Boston: People still flock to them, but they aren’t getting high danger chances at the same rate this year.
  • Avoid STL/ARI: Duh
