Only two games on the slate today for our DFS Hockey preview. As mentioned the other day, I’ll be reviewing what I picked in the last post, where I was right, where I was wrong, and where we got a little unlucky. That plays into our overall strategy for future contests as well.

As a reminder, be sure to check out my primer on how to win big at DFS hockey. And as always, please bet and play responsibly. I won’t be putting that many words in each of these going forward, just the guys that caught my eye and why. Remember though, just because it’s called out here doesn’t mean there aren’t other options. Play who you like! This is just what I like.

*DFS Hockey content is unlocked for now. DFS and sports betting content will go behind the Patreon in November. Subscribe here! This isn’t strictly Rangers content, but it’s something I love and I am halfway decent at.

Reviewing yesterday’s picks

I only ran one lineup last night since I had a migraine and couldn’t really focus. I min-cashed my $5 entry for $8, and that Filip Chytil disallowed goal cost me 20 points.

Goalies:

  • Igor Shesterkin ($8.2k): Rough game, this is a miss. It looks like the Rangers will be limiting shot attempts against pretty well, so Shesterkin’s value in DFS may not be as high as last year.
  • Ilya Sorokin ($7.9k): 17.2 points, 2x his salary. He was fine, but didn’t get you to the big money.
  • Phoenix Copley ($7.2k): Once Copley was announced as the starter, I was off LA.

Stacks:

  • David Pastrnak-Pavel Zacha-James van Riemsdyk ($18.4k): 49.8 points. Zacha (1.5 points) is dragging them down for DFS.
  • RNH-Leon Draisaitl-Zach Hyman ($20.6k): 68.1 points. Smash.
  • Toronto’s Big 4: I played the wrong center, but Nylander was a hit and Tavares was fine.
  • Alexis Lafreniere-Filip Chytil-Artemi Panarin ($13.8k): Disallowed goal killed this line. 1 millimeter offside.

Defense:

  • Adam Fox ($6.1k): 15.6 points, smash.
  • John Klingberg ($4.2k): Salvaged the night with 1 assist, meh otherwise.

Today’s Goalies

  • Antti Raanta ($8.3k): Highest win probability, but most expensive.

Teams to Target/Avoid

Changing this up a bit. Instead of picking stacks and defensemen, going with teams to target. You aren’t going to be playing fourth lines and bottom pairs. Instead we pick teams/games to target that should be boat races, and avoid teams/games that should be a slog. This will get more fine tuned as we get more data on each team’s tendencies.

  • Target Ottawa: Third string goalie in net, Tampa hasn’t looked the same.
  • Avoid Anaheim: Just not a good team, and Carolina is a very system-based team built on controlling play and limiting the opposition.
