Only two games on the slate today for our DFS Hockey preview. As mentioned the other day, I’ll be reviewing what I picked in the last post, where I was right, where I was wrong, and where we got a little unlucky. That plays into our overall strategy for future contests as well. There’s a huge slate tonight, with tons of good options.

As a reminder, be sure to check out my primer on how to win big at DFS hockey. And as always, please bet and play responsibly. I won’t be putting that many words in each of these going forward, just the guys that caught my eye and why. Remember though, just because it’s called out here doesn’t mean there aren’t other options. Play who you like! This is just what I like.

Reviewing yesterday’s picks

I had two DFS Hockey lineups last night. The first was a big, big whiff. I finished near dead last with the Caps PP, Schmid, and Moser. But the second was an absolute smash, taking 13th of 4500+ people.

Goalies:

  • Akira Schmid: I was advised to move off Schmid late, and it turned out to be a good piece of advice. I switched to Jarry. Schmid was a miss, likely because I’m scarred for life from that playoff series. I have biases too.
  • Tristan Jarry: 23.3 points, best goalie on the slate. Smash.
    • As an aside, this was the better bet due to price and volume expected. It was high risk, high reward, which is what we want in tournament plays.

Stacks:

  • Jack Hughes/Tyler Toffoli/Jesper Bratt: 75 points! If you didn’t have this trio, you didn’t place.
  • Alex Ovechkin/Nik Backstrom/Evgeny Kuznetsov: This was a miss. 9 total points, and a bagel from Backstrom. Woof.

Defense:

  • JJ Moser: I misread the Arizona defense situation, as Moser only got 14 min TOI. That’s not a player you look to play in DFS.

Today’s Goalies

  • Igor Shesterkin ($8.2k): I’m probably being a homer, but he looked sharp and the Rangers are favored. They may look sloppier tonight than in Buffalo, which may lead to more shots against.
  • Ilya Sorokin ($7.9k): Buffalo should look to rebound and get a bunch of shots, and Sorokin is a very good goalie. The Isles will have trouble on offense, so the 6 points for the win is risky.
  • Phoenix Copley ($7.2k): Carolina is good, and LA should be better than their first performance. Lots of shots, missing Svechnikov, so finishing may be a problem for Carolina.

Top Stacks

  • David Pastrnak-Pavel Zacha-James van Riemsdyk ($18.4k): BOS1/PP1 is good value in a game that should be a boat race.
  • RNH-Leon Draisaitl-Zach Hyman ($20.6k): EDM2/PP1 will likely be low owned and due for a bounce back.
  • Toronto’s Big 4: Silo them, stack them, do what you wish.
  • Alexis Lafreniere-Filip Chytil-Artemi Panarin ($13.8k): Wildly underpriced for their output in Buffalo. Panarin is only $6.1k!

Defense

  • Adam Fox ($6.1k): PP1, minutes eater, bad opponent. Great stack with NYR2 as the value stack.
  • John Klingberg ($4.2k): Good stacking option with Toronto’s big-4, bad opponent.
