DFS Hockey 10/13 favors the Devils

Only two games on the slate today for our DFS Hockey preview. As mentioned the other day, I’ll be reviewing what I picked in the last post, where I was right, where I was wrong, and where we got a little unlucky. That plays into our overall strategy for future contests as well. I missed yesterday’s 7 game slate due to travel. It’s a long season, I can’t get to them all!

As a reminder, be sure to check out my primer on how to win big at DFS hockey. And as always, please bet and play responsibly. I won’t be putting that many words in each of these going forward, just the guys that caught my eye and why.

Reviewing Wednesday’s picks

Goalies:

  • Cam Talbot:  8.4 DK points. Fine process, just not the result. I’ll take the L here.
  • Connor Hellebuyck: -2.1 points. Yikes.

Stacks:

  • Pettersson-Kuzmenko-Garland: 57.8 DraftKings points, an absolute smash.
    • In DFS hockey, even 1 guy can carry a line.
  • RNH-Draisaitl-Hyman: Edmonton got crushed. Good process, bad result.
  • Zacha-Pastrnak: 27.5 points: Pastrnak was fine, Zacha was a miss.
  • Toronto’s Big 4: They did what we expected them to do. You could have stacked or island-played them and it worked.
  • Bunting-Aho-Jarvis: 35.5 points: Aho was the disappointment here.

Defense:

  1. Matt Roy: 12.7 points for $3k – smash
  2. Seth Jones: 8.2 points – fine, not great, but fine
  3. Evan Bouchard: 18.1 points – smash

My lineups had all of the stacks and defensemen, just whiffed on the goalies. It happens.

Today’s Goalies

  • Akira Schmid ($7.9k) – Don’t overthink it. He’s cheap and the chalk. This is good chalk.
  • Tristan Jarry ($7.8k) – If you want to be contrarian, Jarry is fine. Favored, the Caps shoot a bunch, but their powerplay might be a problem.

Top Stacks

  • Jack Hughes/Tyler Toffoli/Jesper Bratt ($20k): Arizona is bad. This is the Devils best offensive line and PP2.
    • A lot of people will be on this one. Nico Hischier/Timo Meier/Dawson Mercer ($17.4k) is fine too.
  • Alex Ovechkin/Nik Backstrom/Evgeny Kuznetsov ($15.5k): Caps PP1 is still lethal, and the Penguins aren’t good defensively.

Defense

  • JJ Moser ($3.2k) – Top pair, PP2 usage. Devils shoot a lot, should get the blocked shots bonus.
