The NY Rangers cuts today feature a trio of prospects to watch. The Blueshirts cut all three of Brett Berard, Dylan Garand, and Matthew Robertson, plus Adam Edstrom, Brandon Scanlin, and Matt Rempe. Berard, Garand, and Robertson are the closest to the NHL, but all three were never in the running for an NHL spot.
Edstrom and Rempe are the other two names to watch, as big kids who can also skate well for their size. They are a long ways away from the NHL, if they ever make it as late round picks.
With the Rangers cuts today, the Blueshirts have 27 players left in camp, including Mac Hollowell and Louis Domingue, who will also be cut. It’s expected that Ben Harpur will also be cut at some point.
Assuming the Rangers go with 13-7-2 to break camp, and assuming Hollowell, Domingue, and Harpur are cut, that leaves 24 players for 22 spots. Jonny Brodzinski, Will Cuylle and Brennan Othmann are all competing for those final two spots. If I were a betting man, and I am, I’d put money on Cuylle. Brodzinski is the captain of the Wolf Pack, a usual fatal sentence for an NHL career, and Othmann doesn’t need to be rushed.
