Another goalie gets sent to the AHL, as the Rangers have assigned goalie Talyn Boyko to the AHL. Boyko was never going to get a look at the NHL this season, but he will compete with Dylan Garand and Louis Domingue at the AHL level for spot starts with the Hartford Wolf Pack. It is expected that Garand takes the starters reins, but Boyko could sprinkle in some starts with a good showing at Hartford’s camp.

The most likely scenario is that Boyko starts in the ECHL just to get minutes and stay sharp. In the event of an injury, he’d be the AHL backup. Boyko has a long way to go before he’s considered a viable goalie prospect, as his up and down seasons in the WHL leave much to be desired. The hope is his 46 games in 2021-2022 (.913 SV%) is the reality, and not his most recent season with a .898 SV%.
