Igor Shesterkin

Finalizing their positional rankings for this season, the NHL Network ranked Igor Shesterkin as the #2 goalie in the league right now, behind Andrei Vasilevskiy. Shesterkin was ahead of Ilya Sorokin and Connor Hellebuyck. This quartet is the upper echelon of goaltenders in the NHL, with a sizable gap between them and the next tier in NHL goaltending.

Linus Ullmark, the 2023 Vezina winner, was 6th on this list. He was ahead of Jake Oettinger, something that will likely stir some debate, as will not having Ullmark in the top-five. Despite the Vezina win, and Ullmark had a fantastic season, he’s not in that upper echelon of goalies.

Shesterkin and Sorokin are going to be fun to watch in the same division for quite some time. The rest of the Islanders may be a train wreck, but with Sorokin they are always in it. Same with Shesterkin and the Rangers, although the Rangers are far less of a train wreck than the Islanders.
