The Rangers added another cheap one year contract, signing defenseman Erik Gustafsson to a one year contract with an $825k cap hit. Unlike Connor Mackey, Gustafsson is a legitimate defenseman with solid numbers.

Gustaffson is a fine option if Zac Jones isn’t ready to make the jump. At the very least he’s a great 7D and again puts distance between Ben Harpur and regular minutes. Of all the signings, I’d expect Gustafsson, Nick Bonino, and Blake Wheeler to be the only ones to get regular playing time.
