Per Darren Dreger, the NY Rangers are a strong contender for winger Blake Wheeler. There are no other rumors about contract details or if there are any other contenders yet, but naturally this will evolve throughout the day.
Wheeler isn’t the best option right now, but could be a low risk, medium reward play. At 37 years old, he’s eligible for a bonus laden contract. That could give the Rangers a somewhat viable wing for cheap, but how viable remains to be seen.
Update: Wheeler has signed with the Rangers for 1 year, $800k. Low risk, medium reward, minimal cap hit. This is fine.
