Drew Fortescue 2024 World Juniors

The Rangers traded up with the Penguins one spot in the third round, moving up from #91 to #90, attaching a 2024 7th rounder to the deal to make it work. With the pick, they selected defenseman Drew Fortescue. Fortescue, again a Team USA product and again a Dan Muse guy, is a 6’1 overall solid defenseman that is just that: Steady and solid.

Generally speaking, we like upside picks, and the Rangers did pass on the “clear consensus” best player available in Jayden Perron. But they trust Muse –again, a very targeted hire– and got the kid they wanted. He’s no slouch with the puck, but he’s not going to turn heads either. He’s good in transition, which is what you need in this NHL.

Fortescue will join 1st round pick Gabe Perreault at BC next season.
