The NY Rangers coaching rumors are taking an expected yet interesting turn, as Vince Mercogliano noted that Peter Laviolette is at the top of the list for Chris Drury. This is expected as he’s been the coach tied to the Rangers the most, at least for now, as the field of available coaches is expected to expand. The Rangers are also tied to Mike Babcock and Joel Quenneville.
Laviolette doesn’t, and shouldn’t, inspire confidence in the coaching search. He’s the safe option, one that can get the Rangers where they need to be, but it will be painful. Laviolette plays usually plays more of an aggressive style, and will certainly have the Rangers working. There will be structure in the defensive zone and on the forecheck. But his in-game adjustments have been rumored to be subpar.
Of the NY Rangers coaching rumors, this one makes the most sense as of today.
