Rangers dismiss Jim Ramsay

In a bit of a surprise move, the Rangers have dismissed Jim Ramsay, their Head Athletic Trainer since 1994. Ramsay has been a fixture with the Rangers and draws some of the largest ovations during opening night introductions.

Again this is a surprising move. However it is worth noting that Ramsay had the titles of Director of Conditioning and Director of Sports Medicine removed from his responsibilities for this season. He had held those titles in addition to Head Athletic Trainer.

There are rumblings this had to do with the mishandling of the Ryan Lindgren injury late in the season, but that doesn’t really make sense. The decision to put him on LTIR was on Chris Drury and Gerard Gallant, not Ramsay. Perhaps part of it is a misdiagnosis of his injury, but Ramsay wouldn’t be the one diagnosing it. A team of doctors would.

Surprising nonetheless.
