As expected, the NY Rangers have signed Brett Berard to a 3 year entry level contract. Berard, the Rangers 5th round pick in 2020, has quickly moved up the prospect depth chart while at Providence College. After a pedestrian freshman season, Berard exploded for 18-20-38 in 36 games in his sophomore season. Berard just finished his junior year wiht a line of 10-14-24.
Berard’s offense likely won’t translate to top six numbers, but his play style makes for a perfect pest with the ability to put the puck in the net. He tops out as a bottom six pest that plays a solid three zone game, much like Ryan Callahan, but without the 20-30 goal seasons.
Berard likely will need a year in the AHL before he truly competes for a roster spot. He will join the Pack for the rest of this season as well.
