Braden Schneider

The Rangers have assigned defenseman Braden Schneider to the AHL. This may seem like a surprise to some, but it’s all part of the Patrick Kane plan. Schneider, likely along with the recalled Ryan Carpenter will be in the AHL for the next 2 days for the Rangers to accrue enough cap space to land Kane before the March 3 trade deadline.

The Ryan Lindgren injury forced the Rangers to pivot a bit and get even more creative with the cap to ensure Kane is a Ranger by Wednesday’s game against Philadelphia, and this was one of those steps. The Rangers were forced to recall Carpenter to ensure they had 18 healthy skaters for today’s win against the LA Kings. In doing so, they added salary when they did not intend to. Both were on the bench and did not play.

Schneider was the only Ranger that could be sent to Hartford without needing waivers, and was something I theorized could be something the Rangers pursue with the Lindgren injury.
