A bit of a surprise, as the NY Rangers have not placed center Jake Leschyshyn on waivers. This move was needed to clear up cap space for the eventual Patrick Kane trade. The math is fuzzy and complicated, but they may be able to wait until tomorrow for this to still happen.
While it’s expected that Leschyshyn will clear waivers, since many teams passed on him before the Rangers claimed him earlier this year, the fact that this wasn’t done today is surprising. Leschyshyn on waivers is the first step in clearing the space for Kane.
This is certainly an interesting wrinkle in the Kane sweepstakes.
