Jake Leschyshyn

The NY Rangers have claimed center Jake Leschyshyn off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knights. Leschyshyn, a former 2nd round pick in Vegas, is not very good. But the Rangers may view him as a depth option in the short term.

Leschyshyn, who is under contract at $766k for 2 more seasons after this, is an odd claim. After all, they have Gustav Rydahl in the AHL, and he was just called up last week when Johnny Brodzinski was out. Perhaps this is just viewed as competition for the bottom line players? Maybe he will be a late bloomer?

Leschyshyn may be a pleasant surprise, but it’s more likely he turns out like most waiver claims, and not like Eeli Tolvanen.
