The Rangers return to the ice tonight, taking on the Islanders in the first preseason game of the season. The Blueshirts will be busy this week, with four games in five nights and –most likely– a bunch of roster trimmings in between. Tonight’s game has Kaapo Kakko on the top line and Vitali Kravtsov with Filip Chytil on the second line. For now, Gerard Gallant is at his word with giving Kakko top six minutes. Let’s see what he does with it.
On defense, Zac Jones gets a first look with Braden Schneider, a pair everyone will be watching. If Jones doesn’t cut it, then it may be Libor Hajek season in New York, and while the hope is that he’s improved enough to be league average, we haven’t seen it over the last few seasons.
