The Rangers have traded Nils Lundkvist to the Dallas Stars, per Shayna Goldman
Sounds like Nils Lundkvist is heading to the Stars 👀

Lundkvist requested a trade when he was sent to the AHL last season, knowing he was blocked in the Rangers organization. It was a weird scenario, as Lundkvist could have simply not signed with the Rangers and become a free agent. But with Adam Fox, and to a lesser extent Jacob Trouba and Braden Schneider, on the Rangers, Lundkvist was blocked.
Dallas needed a young defenseman with offensive upside who could run their top powerplay unit, and they get that in Lundkvist. The hopeful return is a young center, and many are thinking Ty Dellandrea. More to come.
Update:Â Per Larry Brooks, the return is at least a top-10 protected 2023 1st, which is a major win for the Rangers. If the Stars are brutal, the puck rolls to 2024. Shayna is reporting a 4th rounder is part of the deal too.
