The NHL Top 10 goalie list, presented by the NHL Network, naturally had the reigning Vezina winner in their top spot on their list, right? You’d think that, but nope. Igor Shesterkin is #2 on the list behind Andrei Vasilevskiy.
I’ve long said that Vasilevskiy, a great goalie in his own right, is mildly overrated due to the strength of the teams put on the ice in front of him. Much like Martin Brodeur, actually, where you may not see the same results if he were on a less efficient defensive team.
I’m obviously biased, but I believe Shesterkin is the best goalie in the league right now. Ilya Sorokin will be in the top five as well soon enough. The student(s) in this case will soon become the teacher(s).
