On NHL radio, Dave Pagnotta (The Fourth Period, grain of salt required) noted that the Rangers are still in on Claude Giroux. What exactly that means, we don’t know. That could just mean the Rangers are kicking tires, presenting real offers, or just being used by the Flyers to drive up the price.
That price for Giroux is expected to be a 1st round pick and a very good prospect. To get him, you’re giving up someone you don’t want to give up for a rental.
In injury news, neither Kaapo Kakko nor Kevin Rooney are expected back any time soon.
Doesn’t sound like Kakko or Rooney are very close to returning. Gallant says it’s going to be at least a week until either gets back on the ice. #NYR

This does exacerbate the need to get a trade done, be it for Giroux, Rickard Rakell, or any other player that the Rangers may be targeting. They can only go so long with a bottom six that resembles the Hartford Wolf Pack’s bottom six. Maybe a deal for Rakell gets done after tonight’s game.
