In the “wtf” category of the day, Sean Avery has signed a contract in the ECHL with the Orlando Solar Bears.
We have signed Sean Avery to an ECHL Standard Player Contract in our latest @pizzahut Transaction Report: https://t.co/SPjjyczoyP

Avery hasn’t played hockey professionally since the 2011-2012 season, when he played 15 games with the Rangers, scoring three times. That was the end of his second and relatively ineffective run with the Rangers. His off-ice antics weren’t able to be hidden by his strong play, which had disappeared for the second stint with the Rangers.
His first run with the Rangers, although short, was memorable. Avery was a solid on-ice contributor and was a factor in the NHL changing the goalie screening rules. Those were fun times.
Avery is now 41 years old, so I’m not sure if this is just him having some fun and playing some puck again, or trying to mount an NHL comeback. I’m sure when you woke up today, you didn’t expect to see news of Sean Avery signing an ECHL contract, yet here we are.
