Whatever leverage the Buffalo Sabres thought they had has quickly disappeared. As more and more teams drop out of the Jack Eichel sweepstakes, his camp has formally requested a trade (again) following whatever that press conference was yesterday.

The Sabres overplayed their hand with their demands, and it came back to bite them. Since June, Vegas, LA, Minnesota, and Boston have all dropped out of the Eichel sweepstakes with their own offseason moves. While technically it is still possible for Eichel to land there, the chances are slim.

At this point it’s the Rangers or the Ducks. The Rangers have many more assets and can beat any offer the Ducks. The only way the Ducks can land him is if they offer Trevor Zegras, in which case the Rangers won’t match, as they’ve turned down offers with that quality of a prospect already.

With Eichel requesting a trade again, Buffalo has lost all leverage. Eichel will likely go for a Rick Nash package at this point.
