After yesterday’s…festivities…the Rangers are back at the 2021 NHL Draft for Day Two. The Rangers hold 8 picks today:

  • Round 3: 65, 80
  • Round 4: 104, 106, 112
  • Round 5: 144
  • Round 6: 176
  • Round 7: 208

Their second round pick belongs with Detroit in the Marc Staal trade last year. Their extra third rounder (#65) came from Buffalo for Jimmy Vesey, is actually the first pick of the third round. Their two extra fourth rounders (104, 106) came from the Brendan Lemieux and Vlad Namestnikov trades with LA and Ottawa, respectively. The other picks are the Rangers’ own picks.

I’d expect the Rangers to make a move or two today, perhaps trying to get back into the second round. Alex Georgiev and Ryan Strome are still Rangers, which I don’t think they will be on opening night. Today might be when Georgiev gets traded, as a first round pick was never a realistic return. With the Canes sending a Calder Finalist goalie to the Wings for a third round pick, don’t expect much for Georgiev now.

As for Strome, with Buchnevich gone, if there is a Jack Eichel trade he will be included. Not just to make room, but to balance out salaries for this year. The Rangers will miss both Buch and Strome, to which the latter is something I never thought I would say.
