The first domino has fallen. The Rangers have traded forward Pavel Buchnevich to the St. Louis Blues.

The return is a 2nd round pick next season and forward Sammy Blais. Blais, a 25 year old LW, put up 8-7-15 in 36 games last season. Blais is more of a bottom-six player, whose goal total may have been inflated a bit shooting 25%. That said, he did drive offense in St. Louis, so perhaps there is more here.

On the surface, the Rangers traded Buchnevich, a first line winger, for a fourth liner and a 2nd round pick. Remember that Blais and Buchnevich are only a year apart as well. There is also something else clearly in the works, as this appears to be nothing short of a cap dump, since Buchnevich is going to get expensive.
