Around the Farm

Around the Farm: Adam Edstrom with fluke goal in win

Adam Edstrom got the first goal and eventual game winner in yesterday’s win for Rogle. The goal was a weird one that took a bunch of bounces, but a goal is a goal.

Nils Lundkvist logged 24:13 TOI for Lulea, as he continues to show he’s a minutes eater and solid defenseman. I’m looking forward to him coming over to the NHL next season. Karl Henriksson logged 9:01 TOI for Froluna.

We had a potential Rykov/Kravtsov matchup taken away from us, as both missed yesterday’s game between CSKA and Traktor.

  • I really want Edstrom to pan out as a solid 4th line NHLer. We’ll see. It’s weird. the Rangers are so close. Rounding out the bottom six with Blackwell, PDG, Lemieux and Goat (Who would not have been my choice of who to bench against Philly) has changed this team. The defense is close to being well rounded and enviable. They just need a little tinkering. I think between the stacked division, shortened season and youth learning curve–there’s just too much stacked against this team.

Next year, I would expect this team to be a playoff team. With the exception of two games they have been right there in it.

What do people think of including Mika in a trade for Jack–if it were to go down. I love Zib, but how will the afford both? Mika is going to get paid and some years. However, he’ll be 30 and have a significant injury history even if he goes from now until he is a UFA with no more injuries.

    To cold? To shortsighted? Thoughts?

    • I too love Mika but we do have to give up value to get eichel. I don’t see A package of prospects getting it done.

However trading our best center for a center who(current Mika struggles aside) isn’t a huge upgrade doesn’t help us too much.

Over the last 2 years they are pretty similar in points. Mika is better at face offs as Jack is only at 46%. Mika kills penalties. Does eichel? I honestly don’t know.

Sure he’s 3 years younger but am I willing to mortgage the farm for what amounts to gaining 3 years age wise.?

If you don’t include Mika then who do you include? Strome? That’s a joke. I’m sure Laffy kakko fox and Miller are untouchables. That leaves who? Kratsov, lundwuist Robertson Schneider?

I’d gladly part with krat as I think he’s gonna be a bust. No way do I want to give up nils. Schneider I think will end up being a bigger and slightly better Lindgren and I’m fine with that and will be happy if he turns into That. But is that enough? Strome krats and robertson/Schneider?

      I dunno

      • Doubt it. I think Chytil is going to be a fine 2nd line center. I think they have the foundation for the 3rd and fourth line and can make smart PDG and Blackwell type of UFA signings to fill out the bottom six. Is it worth it to give Mika a big deal at 30? Is Eichel the best target? I have no idea.

It’s interesting because this team should be a playoff team next year and a true cup contender in 22-23 or 23-24. It all depends on asset management and development.

How crazy will we all get if there is some unexpected busts and/or regressions, bad trades, etc. and this team is still rebuilding and a non-playoff team by 22-23?

    • I’m curious to know why you didn’t include Rooney in your bottom 6,he’s younger then PDG and Blackwell and he’s been one of our better players this season.

    • Edström has already passed last seasons totals in 12 fewer games while in a similar role from last year.

Hopefully they bring him next year to have him compete for a spot in Hartford, he really needs to show he has the skill in a top 6 role down there.

He’s got a better shot than Henriksson at this point.
