It will be a Canada and Team USA finals at the 2021 World Juniors. Both teams dispatched of Russia and Finland, respectively, in the semi final matchups last night. Canada steamrolled Russia 5-0 behind a two point night from Braden Schneider. Canada has never trailed in this tournament.

Team USA got a scare from Finland, as they blew a 3-1 lead in the third period. But a late goal from Arthur Kaliyev broke the tie with 1:16 remaining. Brett Berard played 12:12 in this one and finished with a +1 rating.

The last two times these two met in the World Juniors finals, Team USA won both (2017, 2010). The 2017 team had both Adam Fox and Ryan Lindgren on it. That 2010 team was the famous one with a bunch of Rangers: Ryan Bourque, Derek Stepan, and Chris Kreider.

The last time Canada beat Team USA in the World Juniors finals was 1997. Future Rangers Dan LaCouture, Paul Mara, Tom Poti, and Mike York were on that team. Fun fact: Jason Sessa was on that team, and I played roller hockey with him about 12 years ago. Dude didn’t crack the NHL and was still light years ahead of all of us. Goes to show you how good these NHLers really are.
