Around the Farm: Yegor Rykov adds another assist

Yegor Rykov was the only prospect in action yesterday to get on the score sheet. Rykov notched an assist, his seventh of the season, in CSKA’s 5-3 win. Vitali Kravtsov, Adam Edstrom, Leevi Aalton, and Karl Henriksson were all in action as well.

Admin note: I’m going to start running these the day after the games. When the WHL games start rolling, I’ll be asleep long before those games end. So I want to get in the habit of running them the day after now.

          • Took it easy his 1st 3 shifts, then on the 4th he was both aggressive & responsible. Liking what I see, big step up.

          • Okay, the puck looks like a live grenade on his stick, but I think he just got an assist on the 1st goal.

          • And he did. A meat & potatoes clear up the wall (that would get you benched for a shift nowadays in the NHL) that got to a guy who made the sweet saucer pass for the goal.

7 shifts 1st period, maybe got up to 8 minutes TOI because of his opening shift being a mess with icings and whatnot. Skating largely looks fine; transitions are strong, good gap control, won a foot race he was losing; stride breaks down when he’s gassed.

D to D passing fine, gets the yips under pressure by not using his body to shield the puck; only pass out so far is up the wall, but that’s where strong side F is.

          • An assist that reminded me of Brady Skjei. Collects the puck in his own end, goes behind his own net, 1 man breakout to the other end, finds nothing, skates it out of the zone by accident, passes to a guy with a head of steam, gains the zone and dishes across the royal road for the goal.

That’s a lot of work for a secondary assist.

          • Hajek finishes the game with 1 SOG, 2A, +2 in 15:44 TOI and some time on the PK.

Not bad for his first game in 10 months.
