With their recently acquired second round pick, the NY Rangers have selected left wing William Cuylle. The pick came to the Rangers in exchange for Lias Andersson just moments ago.
Cuylle is a good skater, using his size to power through opponents. He’s not overly fast, but fast enough for now. He projects out as a power forward.
He’s big, and he has a good shot. There are some concerns considering Jeremie Poirer was still on the board. Cuylle doesn’t have great offensive numbers in the OHL this year though. He’s at 22-20-42 in 62 games last season.
There are a lot of comparisons to the Ryan Gropp pick, which obviously doesn’t bode well. But his ceiling could be a Milan Lucic/Pat Maroon type.
