Now for some painful news. It looks like the Washington Capitals are a “clear front runner” for Henrik Lundqvist.

This stings, a lot. Hank going in-division is tough, but also a bit expected. He has a life up here, and going to Washington ensures that he’s still close by and gets enough trips up to NY to see his family. It’s also a team with Stanley Cup aspirations.

There is something nice about seeing Lundqvist and Alex Ovechkin, who had a very professional and respectful rivalry, on the same team. However seeing Hank in a Caps uniform is going to be brutal.

Something else to consider – if fans are not in the stands, then Hank’s return to MSG will be without fans. He deserves better. I don’t know what’s worse – seeing Henrik Lundqvist in a Capitals uniform, or having his return be in an empty Garden.
