Rangers sign goalie Tyler Wall to entry level contract

2016 6th round pick likely to fight to start in AHL

The New York Rangers have signed goalie Tyler Wall, their 2016 6th round pick. Wall just finished his senior season at UMass-Lowell, where he put together some great numbers. His senior season, his best, saw him post an 18-8-6 record with a 2.10 GAA and a .931 SV%.

Wall will join Adam Huska in Hartford, where both will fight for the starting role with the Wolf Pack. Huska struggled with Hartford this past season, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Wall has the inside track to start.

This signing has no impact on the NHL goalie conundrum, at all. Wall finished his senior season and the Rangers needed to sign him.

  • Glad we signed him. If they’re thinking about trading Georgiev he could be the backup in 2 years. After some time in Hartford. The Shesterkin Wall..

  • Good news, one always has to worry a bit about College Seniors … but only a crazy goaltender wouldn’t want to be coached by Benny.

  • Good signing. Wall was starting to gain notice 2 years ago (I think it was) when he had a breakout season and seemed to figure it out.

He and Huska will be a good tandem in Hartford.

I’m very disappointed in Halverson, I thought that he coulda been someone.

      • Olaf may turn out ok but he still was not the pick in the 2nd round of that draft. Especially with consensus first round picks (forwards) still on the board at that time.

    • Normally, you need 2 in the NHL, 2 in the AHL, 2 in the ECHL, and now you need a seventh to expose in the Seattle expansion draft, so I don’t think the Rangers have too many at this point.

      • The vet goalie they got before the season ended is the one that’s going to be exposed to Seattle. I forget his name.

          • I see your parents let you out of the basement for some air and dinner Fart Queue. We’ve got your number my friend. You might have to give up your name and gold trophy for wasting your whole life away in cyberspace.

    • Totally agree. More like pitchers in baseball. Never have enough and other teams always looking for good ones so great trade bate.

  • Good news, we need to get another good prospect then we are set for the next ten years. As much as Lundqvist was great, he absolutely sucks now. Ever since he signed his huge contract he has been on the downhill. Of course spectacular games here and there but Sather was as competent as Donald Trump. God awful at their jobs.
